The supervision of a guardian is only becoming more and more important as the dangers of our globalized world are increasing with each passing day. The orphaned and the abandoned are the children of our world whose parents have either died or deserted them leaving them lacking this guardianship and no one to love and care for them. Without guidance and protection, a child could be given up for a lost life of use, abuse, and corruption. The number of abandoned orphans and children in the world is rapidly increasing, and a number of these children are located in the Middle East and North African countries (MENA). However, while no country is immune from this growing problem the reasons sometimes greatly differ and vary between one country and another.
For example, the UAE law defines an orphaned and abandoned child as a “destitute child and they are the one who is born to unknown parents, the illegitimate child of a UAE national mother who does not wish to support it, the child whose parents are dead, separated by divorce, or going through disputes”. There is an extremely wrong assumption among the citizens and foreigners in the UAE that there are no orphanages nor any abandoned children here because when an Emirati’s parent dies the rest of his family takes in the child. However, that is not true as there are numerous orphanages here in the UAE full of abandoned children and their numbers have increased over the past years due to many reasons.
